Pore‐scale analytic model to calculate the suction stress in partially saturated soils

چکیده

The expression of effective stress in unsaturated conditions has remained controversial ever since the concept was first proposed 1950s by Bishop. In this paper, based on law thermodynamics, a novel approach is to calculate soil systems applying improved bundled cylindrical capillary model and probability density function particles. provided an for Bishop's coefficient χ. basic assumptions are (a) water pores can be divided into adsorbed water, (b) pore network considered as rigid body, particle structure unchanged with saturation variation. Published experimental data compared Lu's our results. findings show that performs well over wide range nonexpansive soils, such sand, stage expansive silt, clay materials.
